Lake Bluff Farmers Market Is ON!
Submitted by the Village of Lake Bluff
The Lake Bluff Farmers Market will return for its 27th consecutive season on Friday, June 5 (7 a.m. to noon) with new policies to promote social distance and safety. This year’s Farmers Market is sponsored by Northwestern Medicine.
“Northwestern Medicine has been a valued partner in the health of our community,” said Village President Kathleen O’Hara. “We are proud that they will also be our partner in this first step towards resuming public life as COVID-19 restrictions are relaxed in our community.”
Each year, the Lake Bluff Farmers Market welcomes food and flower vendors from Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin to one of Chicago magazine’s “Best Farmers Markets for Every Day of the Week.” This year’s Farmers Market has expanded to create more room to shop safely, including the full closure of one block of Scranton Avenue in Lake Bluff’s central business district. The Market has also adopted new policies to reduce crowding and promote hygiene.
“The Farmers Market is one of the community events that can proceed safely in the current public health climate,” said Village Administrator Drew Irvin. “Our volunteers, vendors and Village staff have worked hard to plan an enjoyable and safe market unlike any other in our history.”
For three years, the Market has partnered with Artists on the Bluff, a non-profit arts organization, to produce an annual commemorative poster as well as streetlight banners that display farm and produce scenes. This year’s poster is a still life of produce painted by local artist Paulette Colo with design by Phillip Ross.
The Farmers Market relies on this and other community partnerships to succeed. An advisory group of local residents help select vendors and programming. In normal years, the Farmers Market welcomes Master Gardeners from the University of Illinois extension as well as local musicians to serve as entertainment. These groups might be able to return later in the season as rules adapt to match current public health guidance.
